Hiram College Men’s Basketball Steve Fleming has resigned after eight seasons in order to lead and operate a family run business. Fleming, a 1994 graduate of Hiram, was named head coach in 2006 after successful stints at Ashland University and Tiffin University.

"I have always said it would take something very special for me to leave Hiram," said Fleming. "The opportunity to start a new business alongside my father is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I’m grateful for my time at Hiram, both as a player and a coach, and will always consider myself a member of the campus community."

As a player at Hiram, Fleming was the most valuable player in both his junior and senior seasons. He earned All-Ohio Athletic Conference academic and athletic honors both years and was a two-time winner of the Donald Campbell Award, presented to the institution’s top male athlete.

"Steve experienced great success as both a player and a coach at Hiram," said Ellen Dempsey, Hiram College Director of Athletics. "Hiram has been an important part of his life and he has worked tirelessly to develop our basketball program to the point where it is respected throughout the North Coast Athletic Conference and all of NCAA Div. III. We’re sorry to see Steve move on, but excited for him as he enters this new phase of his life."

A search for Fleming’s successor will be launched immediately, according to Dempsey.

"We anticipate that it will be a highly attractive position because of the good work Steve has done for the past eight years."
