University at Buffalo Athletic Director Danny White announced a contract extension for men’s basketball head coach Bobby Hurley on Tuesday morning. The extension keeps Hurley on the sidelines for the Bulls through the 2018-2019 season.

"Our men’s basketball program made tremendous progress in just one season under Coach Hurley and his staff," said White. "Our program is moving forward in the right direction and this is another positive step as we work, collectively, to build America’s next big-time college athletics brand. Bobby is a talented coach, and we are confident his leadership will bring our program to new heights in the coming years."

Hurley is beginning his second year at the helm of the men’s basketball program after leading UB to its first ever outright MAC East Division Title and a 19-10 overall record in 2013-14. Amongst the other highlights from Hurley’s first season included Javon McCrea being named MAC Player of the Year and Shannon Evans being named to the Kyle Macy Freshman All-America Team. Hurley was also named a finalist for the Joe B. Hall Award, which was awarded to the nation’s top first-year head coach.

The Bulls led the Mid-American Conference in scoring margin and finished second in the league in scoring at 73.5 points per game.

"Today’s contract extension solidifies the university’s commitment to building an elite college basketball program here in Western New York."

Hurley and the Bulls will open the 2014-15 season on November 14, hosting South Dakota State.
