Former LSU and North Texas head coach Johnny Jones will be named as the new coach at Texas Southern. He will replace Mike Davis who departed for Detroit earlier this month. Mark Berman of Fox 26 in Houston was the first to report this. He tweeted:
Former LSU and North Texas Coach Johnny Jones, currently associate head coach at Nevada (@NevadaHoops), has agreed to become the new @TXSOTigers coach: “I’m really excited about it. This is a terrific opportunity with a great university in a great city.” @CoachJohnnyJ12
He followed that tweet up with this one:

Jones was hired as the associate head coach at Nevada prior to the 2017-18 season. Before that, he was the head coach at LSU (2012-2017/90-72 ), North Texas (2001-2012/190-146 ), and Memphis (1999-2000/15-16).
