Idaho State men’s basketball Head Coach, Ryan Looney announced three coaching changes and finalized his coaching staff for the upcoming 2023-24 season.
Joe White has been elevated to Associate Head Coach for the 2023-24 season. Entering his fifth year on the ISU sidelines, White has been a centerpiece alongside Looney since his hiring in 2019.
“Joe White has worked extremely hard during his time at Idaho State University. His efforts have allowed us to put ourselves in a position where we are now ready to take the next step. We are thankful for Joe’s passion, commitment and loyalty to our program. A promotion to Associate Head Coach is well deserved.”
Prior to joining Idaho State White served as the Head Coach at Lane Community College. In 2014 White served as the top assistant for three years at Tacoma Community College. He was pivotal in the success and rebuilding of the men’s basketball program and took them to the NWAC championship game in 2017. After his third season at Tacoma, White was hired as the top assistant at Lane Community College. After one year as the head assistant, White was named head coach. Leading his team to a 27-4 in his first season as head coach. White played at Southern Oregon from 2008-12.
The Bengals bring in Evan Eustachy as an Assistant Coach, joining Idaho State from Odessa College.
“Evan Eustachy is a great addition to our staff. He has been around high-level basketball his entire life. Evan knows what success looks like. He has great experience at both UTEP and Odessa College. We look forward to him sharing his experiences with our student-athletes.”
Eustachy comes to Idaho State after working as an Assistant Coach at Odessa College in Odessa, Texas since August of 2020. Helping lead his team to the best single season in team history (16-0 in conference play & an Elite 8 appearance), and with an overall record of 48-10 (29-1 in conference play) over two seasons. Prior to Odessa College, Eustachy was the Head Coach for the USA Basketball Academy in Xian, China for the U18 team in 2019-2020, and served as the Director of Basketball Operations at the University of Texas El Paso from 2014-2018.
Idaho State will also bring in Joey Brooks as an Assistant Coach, coming from Nicholls State.
“We are excited about the addition of Joey Brooks to our staff. Joey played at a high level at Notre Dame, was a Graduate Assistant at Purdue and most recently served as an Assistant Coach at Nicholls State. Everywhere Joey has been the team has competed for championships. He will do a great job helping with our scouting and player development.”
Brooks joins ISU after working as an assistant coach at Nicholls State in 2019-21 and 2022-23 in Thibodaux, Louisiana, as well as Cal State Fullerton in 2021-22. Brooks also served as a Graduate Assistant at Purdue University from 2017-2019. Brooks played at the University of Notre Dame from 2009-2013, appearing in the NCAA tournament in all four years and was a Big-East All-Academic Selection.
