Jacksonville elevates Pierce to Associate Head Basketball Coach

The Jacksonville Dolphins have announced a promotion for assistant coach Troy Pierce.

Tuesday, the Dolphins promoted Pierce to associate head coach effective immediately. Pierce is entering his fourth season with the Dolphins after joining the program in 2022.

“This promotion is a testament to Troy Pierce‘s dedication, leadership and impact on our program,” head coach Jordan Mincy said. “His commitment to excellence and ability to inspire both players and staff make him more than deserving of this role. We are excited for the future with coach Pierce helping lead the way.”

Pierce has been with the program since the second year under Mincy and has helped the Dolphins excel since the moment he stepped on campus. In his first season, he saw the Dolphins to a road victory over VCU and the team’s home winning streak extend to 21 games.

After the conclusion of the 2022-23 season, JU was top three in the ASUN in three different defensive categories. His second season featured the Dolphins’ run to the ASUN Semifinals as a #10 seed, including a road win over #1 EKU.

Pierce previously was an assistant coach at Southern Illinois – Edwardsville for three seasons. Before his time at SIUE, Pierce was the Coordinator of Player Development and Video Operations at Bradley for three seasons.

Coaching at his alma mater Emporia State, Pierce saw the Hornets to a pair of Mid-America Athletic Association Tournament berths.

“We are very lucky to have coach Pierce on our staff and this promotion is well deserved,” athletic director Alex Ricker-Gilbert said. “Coach Pierce has been an integral part in the development of this program these past few years and he and his family have become ingrained in our Jacksonville community.  His hard work and dedication to his craft and our student-athletes has been rewarded.”
