James Madison has suspended assistant basketball coaches Mike Deane and David Kontaxis for two games each for violating athletics department policy. JMU said in a statement that the suspensions are a personnel matter and will remain confidential.
Deane, the former head coach at Marquette, Siena, Lamar, and Wagner, has been on the JMU staff since 2012. He began his suspension this past Thursday night vs. UNCW. He will sit out today’s game at Delaware before returning to the bench next week when the Dukes host Elon. Kontaxis, a first year member of the staff, will sit out next weeks games vs. Elon and Northeastern.
“We have a standard of expectations for our program of doing the right thing and representing James Madison University in the highest manner,” Head Coach Louis Rowe said in a statement. “This culture applies to our coaches, our student-athletes and everyone who is associated with our program.”
James Madison is currently 6-16 (4-5 CAA) in Rowe’s first year at the helm.
