The Dillard men’s basketball program has hired Jeremy Jones as the assistant coach, as announced Monday by head coach Mike Newell.
“We wanted to find someone with experience that knows the Dillard way,” Newell said. “Jeremy is young, energetic and wants to get better at his craft and I look forward to working with him.”
After a brief break away from coaching basketball, Jones returns to Dillard, where he served as an assistant coach from 2011-15. The New Orleans native was named the video coordinator at the University of New Orleans during the 2015-16 season, before spending the last two years as a recreation manager with the City of New Orleans.
“It feels good to return to the university where I first got my start in coaching,” Jones said. “I believe my experience can not only continue the winning tradition, but can help get it to the next level.”
During his tenure at Dillard, Jones worked heavily in player development while also assisting in recruiting, scheduling, travel and compliance for the Bleu Devils.
Jones has worked with the Washington Wizards as a basketball camp coach, player development coach on the AAU Circuit and also participated in an internship with the Wizards organization in sales and hospitality.
After graduating from Hampton University, Jones interned with Nike U.S. Basketball in the brand marketing department at the World Nike Headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon.
He has also worked several basketball camps over the years including Georgetown University, Tulane University, Chris Paul Skills Camp and Nike All-American Camp.
Jones graduated from Hampton University in Virginia with a bachelor’s degree in sports management in 2010. He later earned a master’s in sports management from Georgetown University in Washington D.C. in 2011.
