Description:

Primary Position Function/Summary:  Manage all on-campus activities of student-athletes in the Men’s Basketball program and coordinate and oversee all alumni and former player relations activities.  Coordinate, supervise and implement the student-athlete recruiting process for the program.



RESPONSIBILITIES:  
Manage all student-athlete development activities including but not limited to:
• Work in conjunction with DIA Academic Services to manage and oversee all current Men’s Basketball student-athlete community service opportunities, including discovering and scheduling opportunities, enlisting player participation, and analyzing post-event participation and success
• Work in conjunction with DIA Life Skills to facilitate and develop campus student-athlete life skills enhancement opportunities
• Serve as internet strategist/monitor, monitoring various student-athlete social media outlets (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, etc.) for program and individual student-athlete promotion
• Serve as mentor for all current Men’s Basketball student-athletes, counseling them on positive and healthy relationships, personal decision-making, and being productive, contributing members of their various communities
• Collaborate with DIA Compliance Office counseling student-athletes on post-collegiate basketball careers, providing information on areas such as logistics, representation and related issues

Manage alumni and former player relations including but not limited to:
• Maintain accurate database of former University of Illinois men’s basketball players
• Work with I Fund to coordinate all alumni functions before, during, and after the season
• Develop and maintain a monthly coach’s newsletter keeping alumni up to date on Illinois Men’s Basketball

Manage correspondence and related activities for all Men’s Basketball recruits including but not limited to:
• Questionnaires for high school recruits and high school coaches
• Coordinate non-scholarship evaluation and tryout sessions

Manage activities in promotion and enhancement of the Men’s Basketball team:
• Coordinate general correspondence regarding the program for program promotion including, but not limited to correspondence designed to cultivate and enhance relationships with high school and other basketball coaches, both in-state and nationally
• Coordinate, document and submit player and coach of the year award submissions (All-American, Conference, District, etc.)
• Coordinate video including, but not limited to overseeing collection, compilation and analysis of instruction and promotional materials including seasonal game summaries, positional videos, teaching tools, and opponent scouting

Serve as representative of University of Illinois Division of Intercollegiate Athletics
• Make appearances around the nation/region/state at various venues, university and community events to enhance the image of the University of Illinois
• Attend University and Intercollegiate Athletics functions to support marketing and fan development efforts and enhance broad-based support.

Provide statistical analysis
• Participate in analysis of practices, drills and workouts to provide evaluation of areas of strength/weakness
• Statistical analysis of current team via film and written statistics throughout the regular season
• Formulation and organization of data analysis in a manner useful to strategic team improvement
• Collaborate with coaching staff in implementation of action plans to designed to strategically improve current Illinois athletes
Maintain knowledge of, and compliance with, specific NCAA, Big Ten Conference, and institution rules that relate to this position is required.


QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

Education, Required
Bachelor’s degree in Sports Administration or other related field required.

Education, Preferred
Master’s degree in same areas preferred.
Experience, Required
Prior communication experience coaching or playing basketball at Division I level.  Prior administrative experience at the Division I level or other.  Skills in listening, judgment and decision-making.  Abilities in problem identification, reasoning, ability to develop original ideas to solve problems.  Ability to multi-task
