 JOB SUMMARY:

as head coach. Responsible for all aspects of the Central Arizona College NJCAA Division I athletic program including recruiting and supervision of student-athletes, coordinating and supervising practices, coordinating and facilitating fundraising activities, overseeing travel, budget and overall operations of the specific athletic program.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The incumbent will:

  • Teach a full academic load each semester.
  • Work within the Central Arizona College Athletic Department to develop and maintain a successful athletic program.
  • Monitor and administer the budget for specific sport, including fundraising efforts. Recommend the purchases, equipment, and supplies used in the specific sport program and teach proper techniques and use of equipment.
  • Coordinate the recruitment, enrollment, retention, and educational effort of the student athletes on the team. Monitor and report student-athlete academic, athletic, and social progress.
  • Work cooperatively with the Athletic Director and the department Chair to develop and sustain positive experiences academically and socially for student-athletes.
  • Serve as an institutional representative to media sources for all athletic activities as well as news release to the marketing office on the athletic program.
  • Perform student/athlete recruitment activities for men’s basketball.

     

QUALIFICATIONS: The Head Coach positions are full time faculty with Professor status. Coaches must be fully qualified to teach in the academic disciplines of English, Mathematics, Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics) or Social Science (Sociology, History, Psychology) . Other teaching disciplines will not be considered at this time.

EDUCATION: Master’s degree in discipline to be taught or master’s degree in related field and 18 graduate credits in the discipline to be taught from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.

EXPERIENCE: A minimum of two seasons coaching at the collegiate level as a Head Coach/Assistant Coach in the respective sport.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform this job include, but are not limited to the following:

POSITION: Perform all responsibilities as a full-time faculty member with additional assignment.  Knowledge of methods, practices and techniques of physical training and coaching of athletes.

  • Knowledge of policies, procedures, rules and regulations established for the College’s sports programs.
  • Knowledge of first aid/medical treatment procedures and techniques.
  • Knowledge and skills in managing project and department budgets. Ability to estimate materials, equipment, land and labor costs, and develop and maintain budgets.
  • Skill in the application, methods, practices and techniques of athletic training and coaching.
  • Skill in evaluating injuries.
  • Skill in applying appropriate and effective first aid/medical attention methods and techniques.
  • Skill in communicating both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to recruit and coach highly talented student-athletes.
  • Ability to apply a variety of fundraising techniques and strategies.
  • Ability to analyze situations, develop solutions, and make independent decisions based on established guidelines.
