Description:

The University of Saint Joseph seeks a dynamic, experienced Head Men’s Basketball Coach. The Head Basketball coach is responsible for executing the organization, administration and coaching of the Men’s Basketball program. This is a full-time, 10-month position, reporting to the Director of Athletics.

RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to):

•Develop and implement a comprehensive recruiting and retention program.

•Organize and teach individual skill instruction for players.

•Create an appropriate academic culture for team members and provide adequate academic monitoring, support and counseling for student-athletes.

•Promote the Basketball program both on and off campus. •Plan and execute practice sessions that challenge student-athletes and develop their skills and team play.

•Coordinate and oversee all team travel and recruiting trips.

•Manage the Men’s Basketball budget while exercising full fiscal responsibility.

•Ensure compliance within NCAA and GNAC rules and regulations, fundraising and supervision of assistant coach.

•Drive passenger vans as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

•Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred.

•2-3year’s experience in coaching and recruiting at the college level.

•Knowledge of NCAA Division III rules and regulations.

•AED, CPR, and First Aid certified.

•Valid driver’s license in good standing.

•Excellent oral and written skills and ability to communicate comfortably with students, colleagues, and external constituents.

•Extensive knowledge of both technical and tactical skills.

•Commitment to the academic and athletic success of the student-athlete and to the highest of ethical standards.

•Cultural competency to work with diverse student and/or employee population.

•Exhibits a high level of professionalism, leadership, creative problem solving, diplomacy, negotiation and sales skills, and the ability to manage complex projects with minimal supervision.

•Professional, courteous demeanor and appearance; ability to engage positively and work professionally with students, faculty, staff and administration and represent the University professionally to the public.

•Physical ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
