Description:

Head Coach will be responsible for all phases of competitive NAIA Men’s Basketball program. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: recruitment, retention, and graduating of student athletes, academic supervision, fundraising, developing and managing a competitive competition schedule, budget management, supervise assistant coaches, oversee student conduct and development, develop campus, community, and alumni support, and organize and conduct all competitions and training sessions. Must adhere to all rules and regulations of NAIA, Cascade Conference, and Eastern Oregon University. Expected to implement theNAIA Champions of Character Program within their sport. Perform other duties as assigned by Director of Athletics.

Responsibilities

Recruiting:
As the primary basketball recruiter, successfully research, scout, evaluate and contact prospective student athletes while operating within the guidelines of the department, institution, Cascade Conference and NAIA at all times. As an on campus recruiter collaborate with other departments and university staff in designing and conducting official campus visits in accordance with department, university, cascade conference and NAIAguidelines.
Coordinate the contact of prospective student athletes through telephone calls, mailed recruiting materials, and off campus visits. Oversee the distribution of any athletic grant in aid scholarship offers to prospective student athletes, ensuring the offer is within the total amount available.
Establish and develop positive relationships with the appropriate high school and junior college officials in order to recruit prospective student athletes. A focus should be placed on the Eastern Oregon 10-county region in order to promote the university mission in this area.

Training:
Design, conduct and monitor all athletically-related activities per NAIA, Cascade Conference, and Institutional regulations regarding playing and practice opportunities. This includes preparing annual calendars declaring playing and practice and conditioning schedules.
Evaluate student athlete’s performance in playing, practice and conditioning situations in order to identify strengths and areas of improvement. Develop instructional opportunities to improve skills based on fundamentals of activity. Maintain expert knowledge of skills and strategies related to the sport of basketball and strength and conditioning. Incorporate specific learning opportunities for all positions associated with team and communicate with all members of coaching staff that position oversees. Provide leadership during playing, practice, and conditioning sessions to facilitate proper technique, attitudes towards each other and members of the athletic department. Communicate with Certified Athletic Training Staff regarding injuries of student athletes and their ability to participate. Adhere to all regulations regarding the health and welfare of student athletes as determined by the medical staff.

Academics/Conduct:
Oversee academic progress of student athletes in order to achieve satisfactory progress towards graduation and eligibility. Refer student athletes to appropriate university resources (learning center, advisors, etc.) when deemed necessary based on academic performance. Understand and communicate all university academic policy, as well as conference, andNAIA eligibility requirements to student athletes.
Develop written team rules and regulations regarding conduct.
Assist the Director of Athletics with procedures involving student-athletes violating athletic department or University code of conduct policies.
Develop process to implement five core values of character into overall program. Values include; respect, responsibility, integrity, sportsmanship and servant leadership.

Competitions:
Scout opposing teams by collecting and breaking down statistical and strategic information using game film and on site analysis. Develop sound game plans and strategies for team in preparation of competitions. Manage team related game day activities including practices, pre and post-game meals, travel, lodging and any related functions (Booster event, recruiting etc.). Act as primary liaison to event staff including sports information, grounds and maintenance, equipment supervisor, ticket operations, and compliance personnel. Coordinate with athletics staff needs for practice and competitions. (Gym space, etc.) Develop and submit for approval proposed game schedule in compliance with department handbook policy and NAIAregulations. Communicate with game officials in a manner that does not misrepresent or compromise the department and/or University. Be available for post-game interviews with media.

Public Relations/Fundraising:
Participate in public relations activities as approved by taking part in interviews with print, radio, or television media. Develop and manage robust sports camps and clinics following NAIA, Cascade Conference, and University policy and procedures. Represent the university at professional, civic, booster or alumni events as requested. Take an active role in any general Booster Club activities intended to secure resources for department. Attend Booster Club meetings on a regular basis or when requested. Develop and submit for approval, any team fundraising activities in accordance with athletic department and university policy

Administrative Duties:
Provide oversight for individual sport budget with assistance by athletics staff. Assist with the development of overall building schedules as it relates to competitions, practices, visiting teams, camps and clinics. Provide itineraries of all individual and team travel. Prepare and submit all necessary paperwork related to business affairs in a timely fashion. Monitor expenditures and per diem disbursements for compliance with department, university, conference, and NAIA policies. Manage the purchase of apparel and equipment within the department’s policies and procedures. Monitor the condition of all equipment and assist the equipment manager with the proper care, repair, and replacement when necessary. Manage any post-season awards following all department, university, conference and NAIApolicy. Cooperate with all other coaches and staff in order to further enhance the operations of the entire department. It is an expectation that you conduct yourself with the highest level of professionalism and character at all times. Demonstrate high degree of sportsmanship and moral standards.
Knowledge of Athletic Department, Institutional, Cascade Conference, andNAIA policies and procedures. Help maintain and care for athletic facilities. Perform “other duties as assigned” by Director of Athletics.
