Marquette University men’s basketball head coach Steve Wojciechowski has announced the promotion of both Stan Johnson and Brett Nelson to associate head coach.
“The promotion of both Brett and Stan is a reflection not only what they mean to our program, both on and off the court, but also my confidence in them to have a positive impact on our program and University,” Wojciechowski said. “I give both of them a tremendous amount of responsibility and they have played a key role in our team’s improvement on the court and in the classroom.”
Nelson has been a part of Wojciechowski’s staff since the 2014-15 campaign and has helped the program net a pair of nationally ranked recruiting classes. A 2004 University of Florida graduate, Nelson helped the Gators to the Final Four as a freshman and was runner-up for the league MVP that season. He has also made coaching stops at Ball State, Drake, Arkansas and Marshall.
“Brett has been with me since the beginning and has been critical in our recruiting success since joining Marquette,” Wojciechowski said. “He has a great basketball mind and a bright future in coaching ahead of him.”
Johnson joined the Golden Eagles prior to the 2015-16 season and has played a key role in the program’s recruiting success since his arrival on campus. His career has included stints at Arizona State, Utah and Drake. Johnson played three seasons at Southern Utah and helped the program to an NCAA tournament appearance before playing his final year at Bemidji State.
“Stan has been an invaluable asset to our program since his arrival on campus,” Wojciechowski said. “He impacts our team in a number of ways. He is terrific on the floor, builds meaningful connections with players and has been an outstanding recruiter for us.”
Earlier this month, Wojciechowski announced the promotion of Jake Presutti to Director of Men’s Basketball Operations and Video Coordination.
