Jones named Assistant Basketball Coach at D3 Rockford University

The Rockford University men’s basketball program has announced the hiring of Taylor Jones as its newest member of the coaching staff.

“We are thrilled to have Coach Jones join our staff,” Head Coach Jeremy Reigle stated. “His knowledge, relationship skills, work ethic and character are a great fit for our program.”

Coach Jones comes to Rockford after spending two seasons at Cloud County Community College where he coached three all-region players and two Division I signees.

Before his years at Cloud County, he spent the 2018-19 season as an assistant at the University of Jamestown. With Jones on staff, the Jimmies posted a 29-6 overall record, captured a Great Plains Athletic Conference Championship and made an appearance in the Round of 16 in the NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball National Championship. While at Jamestown, Jones also coached Kevin Oberweiser, who signed to play professionally for the Limerick Celtics of Basketball Ireland.

Prior to that, Jones had a tw- year stop Dakota College at Bottineau from 2016-18. During his two seasons there, the Lumberjacks were 38-24 overall and had three players selected to the All-Region 13 Team.

His first coaching stint after college was at Garden City CC for the 2015-2016 season, where he coached under head coach, Brady Trenkle.

Jones is a former NCAA Division I player at Eastern Illinois University where he graduated in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in Sport Management. He stayed at EIU to earn his master’s degree in Sport Administration (2015).

Before fulfilling his Division I dreams, Jones played one season of junior college basketball at Missouri West Plains in 2008-09.
