Jones named Assistant Basketball Coach at Wisconsin-Oshkosh

UW-Oshkosh head men’s basketball coach Matt Lewis announced Thursday (Sept. 23) the addition of Kyle Jones as the program’s top assistant coach.

Jones was most recently the associate head men’s basketball coach at Carroll University while also serving as an assistant director of graduate admissions at the school. Jones, who spent eight seasons on the Carroll University sidelines, was elevated to associate head coach of the Pioneers program prior to the 2018 campaign.

‘We are incredibly excited to add Kyle to our coaching staff,” said Lewis. “Kyle is a passionate, genuine person and a terrific coach. I have known him for several years and know him to be someone with a tireless work ethic that builds meaningful relationships with those he meets. Our program is looking forward to having Kyle, and his wife, Lori, join our family.”

Jones and Carroll University produced a 20-5 record in 2016, finishing second in the Midwest Conference standings before the Pioneers moved to the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin for the 2017 campaign. The Pioneers paced the CCIW in free throw percentage in 2017, steals in both 2019 and 2020, and scoring defense and turnover margin in 2020.

Jones played basketball at Carroll University and started all 99 games for the Pioneers from 2009-12. Carroll University compiled a 61-38 record during those four seasons and advanced to the second round of the 2012 National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III Championship after winning the MWC Tournament.

Jones finished his playing career with 1,054 points to become the program’s 15th player to reach 1,000. He ranks fourth in Carroll University history with 182 career 3-pointers.

“I could not be more excited about joining the UW-Oshkosh men’s basketball program,” said Jones. “Coach Lewis has built a program in the ultra-competitive Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference that battles for a national championship on an annual basis, and I look forward to doing my part in maintaining the standard of excellence that has propelled the Titans to the level they are at today.”

Jones is a 2008 graduate of East Troy High School. He earned a pair of degrees from Carroll University, a bachelor’s in business management in 2012 and a master’s in business administration in 2015.

Jones replaces Casey Korn, who was named the head coach of the Lawrence University men’s basketball program earlier this month.

UW-Oshkosh has played in each of the past five Division III Championships, securing the program’s first national title in 2019 after reaching the national final during the 2018 campaign. The Titans, who went 29-3 on the way to winning the Division III championship, have claimed one regular season title and one postseason championship in the WIAC while producing a 54-14 overall record under Lewis since the 2019 season.

UW-Oshkosh begins practice for the 2022 season Oct. 17. The Titans host Augustana College (Ill.) in their first game on Nov. 6.
