Following-up on something that I mentioned earlier today in the DAILY DIRT. The search at Des Moines Area CC has wrapped-up, and they will name NAIA William Penn University associate head coach Blake Sanduist as their new head basketball coach. The official announcement is expected later this evening.
Sandquist, a native of Pleasant Hill, IA (just outside of Des Moines), had been on the WPU basketball staff for the past 12-seasons. During his time there, the Statesmen compiled a 295-74 record, and advanced to 10 NAIA national tournaments. Sandquist was tabbed as the 2021-22 Heart of America Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, following a 31-2 (18-1) season.
Sandquist will replace Brett Putz, who was named as the special assistant to the head coach at Indiana State at the end of June.
