JUCO DIRT: Fazzi set to be named Head Basketball Coach at Massasoit CC

I can confirm that NJCAA Region 21 Massasoit Community College (MA) intends to name Rich Fazzi as their new head men’s basketball coach.

Fazzi has most recently served as an assistant at UMass Boston, following a stint as an assistant at Wheaton College. He has also spent seven years as a head coach at the collegiate level with stops at Dean College, Pine Manor College and Newbury College.

During his time at Dean (a former Region 21 member), Fazzi went 38-11 and took his team to the 2013-14 national tournament after capturing the District 2 title. That season, his team was ranked as high as #1 in the country in the NJCAA D2 poll.

Following his time at Dean, he led NCAA D3 Pine Manor to a 42-31 mark over three seasons, and earned back-to-back Eastern College Athletic Conference tournament appearances. Fazzi’s success didn’t end there as he moved on to D3 Newbury College and took them to their first-ever New England Collegiate Conference title game in 2018-19.

Fazzi, who played collegiately at Becker College, began his career as an assistant at Newbury College, and was then named as the associate head coach at Suffolk University. He also worked as an assistant at Endicott College, and spent four years as the Director of Athletics at Saint John Paul II High School (MA).

An official announcement is expected shortly.
