Johnson & Wales Charlotte has announced the hiring of Dan Larkin as the new Head Coach for Men’s Basketball.
Larkin comes to JWU after spending the last five seasons as an assistant coach at Queens under Bart Lundy. The Royals enjoyed tremendous success during that period, winning 25 or more games three times. They were ranked #1 in the NCAA D-II poll and advanced to the Division II Final Four in 2018. Larkin was a key part of that success, as he was responsible for recruiting oversight, and video, equipment, and student staff management.
Prior to his tenure at Queens, Larkin was a student manager at UNC-Wilmington under Buzz Peterson, who is now Assistant General Manager of the NBA’s Hornets. Larkin’s responsibilities at UNC-W included video exchange, player development, scouting, and managing the student staff. While at UNC-W, he had the opportunity to learn from several current and former NCAA D-I coaches including Eddie Bidenbach, Houston Fancher, and Matt McMahon.
Larkin graduated from UNC-W with a bachelor’s degree in parks, recreation, and tourism management. He is currently working towards a master’s degree at Queens’ Knight School of Communication.
“I am pleased to have Dan join JWU as our new men’s basketball coach. Dan brings the knowledge, skill and passion to help our student athletes reach their full potential on and off the court. We look forward to a successful season with Dan at the helm,” commented Athletic Director Trudi Lacey in announcing the hiring.
In addition to his duties as Head Men’s Basketball Coach, Larkin will also oversee the campus’s intramural and recreational programming.
