Kaplan named Director of Basketball Operations at Wofford

David Kaplan has been named as the Director of Men’s Basketball Operations at Wofford.

Kaplan has had previous stints at Davidson-Davie Community College, Catholic University, Centenary College (LA) and at two high schools.

Kaplan joined head coach Matt Ridge’s staff in 2020 as an assistant coach at Davidson-Davie. The Storm finished the 2020-2021 season with a final ranking of No. 2 in the nation and was the top seed for the D2 NJCAA National Tournament. The team finished the season with a record of 23-3 (15-1) including a perfect 11-0 record at home.

In his final season at Catholic University under Steve Howes, the team finished fifth in the Landmark Conference.

In 2017-18 the Cardinals finished fourth in the Landmark Conference. Catholic finished the season going 15-11 including a loss in the semifinals.

Senior Jay Howard was named Landmark Conference Player of the Year after being named D3hoops.com Pre-Season All-American, as well as being selected to the NABC All-District and D3hoops.com All-Region 1st Teams.

The Fairfax native got his first college coaching experience at Centenary College of Louisiana.

Prior to coaching at the college level Kaplan coached at Gar-Field Senior High School and South County High School.

While at South County he helped with the recruitment of seven players who went on to play basketball at the college level. The team won the district tournament championship knocking off the top two seeded teams.

Gar-Field won the Northwest Region Tournament in his first year on staff and reached the state quarterfinals in 2012. Gar-Field finished the 2012-13 season with a 22-5 overall record. The team finished in the Washington Post Top 20 Poll and in the final Associated Press Virginia Group AAA Top Ten in 2012.

Kaplan is a 2010 graduate of High Point where he received his degree in recreation management, with a minor in athletic coaching.
