Corey Harvey has been named Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Knox College, announced Director of Athletics Corey Goff on Thursday.
As associate head basketball coach at Heidelberg University since 2018, Harvey helped to lead the Student Princes to a record of 62-30 over the last four seasons. The team also made the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Tournament in the 2021-22 season. In addition to basketball, Harvey coached the men’s and women’s tennis teams at Heidelberg for two seasons.
“We are thrilled to have Corey Harvey lead our men’s basketball team,” said Goff. “His ability to identify and cultivate talent has played a pivotal role in elevating the Heidelberg program to new heights. We are confident that his expertise and passion will propel Knox College basketball forward.”
Prior to Heidelberg, Harvey worked as a player development intern with the National Basketball Association (NBA)’s Dallas Mavericks, preparing scouting reports, developing skills, breaking down film, and working on various video projects. He began his career coaching high school basketball and teaching mathematics at Saint John’s Jesuit School.
“I am honored and thrilled to take on the role of head men’s basketball coach at Knox College, said Harvey. “I want to thank President McGadney, Corey Goff, and the rest of the search committee for entrusting me with the responsibility of leading this program. We will add value through intention and purpose and take the next steps forward to bringing home a Midwest Conference championship.”
Harvey played two seasons at Daytona State College, where he received an Associate of Arts degree and led the basketball team to a District Tournament appearance. He then received his bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies from Lourdes University, where he led his Lourdes University team to two National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Tournament appearances. He was a team captain and a first team All-Conference selection.
After graduation, Harvey played for the Coast II Coast All-Stars in the American Basketball Association (ABA), serving as team captain and leading the team in scoring and assists. He also received his Master of Business Administration from Heidelberg in 2022.
“Early on in the process, the transformative potential of Knox College was clear,” Harvey continued. “This is more than a place to go to school, it is a community that fosters growth, character, and leadership. I am excited to not only take the next steps as a program on the court, but to develop and grow the young men in our program who will go on to be leaders in their communities. My wife Samantha and I cannot wait to get to campus to immerse ourselves into the Knox and Galesburg communities. We are excited to engage with the students, fans, and community members.”
Harvey will begin his duties for the Prairie Fire on May 13.
