Lenoir-Rhyne University Head Men’s Basketball Coach Brent Owen has announced two additions to his coaching staff ahead of his first year leading the Bears.
Tyrone Grady will join the staff and bring an extensive coaching background with him, including experience in the South Atlantic Conference. Coach Grady most recently served as an assistant at Eastern New Mexico where he helped lead the Greyhounds to a historic year, including the program’s first conference championship in 31 years. Prior to ENMU, Grady was an assistant on staff at SAC rival Coker.
“Tyrone and I make a great team and I’m thrilled that he and his family have decided to join us in Hickory.” said Coach Owen. “Coach Grady earns the respect of the players through his consistent demeanor and honest approach. He knows the game and he knows how to identify and recruit talent. He’s won at every level and perhaps most importantly he knows my style and expectations for our team.”
Coach Owen also added Cesar Lujan-Flores to his staff who previously served as an assistant coach at Eastern New Mexico.
“Cesar brings an element of youthful exuberance to our staff that is really important,” said Owen. “He understands winning basketball, having been around it at the division I level. He knows what talent looks like. He is willing to take on any task asked of him which allows me more opportunity to focus on our team. He also brings levity to our locker room that is great for our players and our staff.”
During this process, Owen also added “Having two coaches who helped me win a championship last season join our program has allowed us to hit the ground running.”
