Following Liberty men’s basketball’s best season in school history, Liberty University and men’s basketball head coach Ritchie McKay have agreed on a contract extension.
“I am very thankful for the leadership that continues to invest and believe in our program. It is truly a privilege to be a part of something bigger than yourself,” McKay said. “The growth that we have experienced is directly related to the commitment made by President Falwell Jr. and Ian McCaw and additionally the hard work and sacrifice from our student-athletes, assistant coaches, support staff and our families.”
McKay and the Flames have been on a historical run having posted four straight 20-win seasons for the first time in school history. Liberty is coming off its second consecutive NCAA Tournament berth and has won 102 games in the last four seasons, which is the 20th most wins in Division I during that span.
Liberty has had a historical season, winning a share of the ASUN Regular Season title for the second straight season, leading the Flames to a perfect 17-0 record at home in the final season at the Vines Center. McKay was recognized as one of the best coaches in the ASUN as he was named ASUN Co-Coach of the Year along with North Florida’s Matthew Driscoll.
