Lorensen steps down at DIII Buena Vista

Buena Vista University Director of Athletics Jack Denholm on Wednesday announced the resignation of Todd Lorensen, head men’s basketball coach.

“I met with Coach Lorensen today and he submitted his resignation as he prepares for another opportunity,” Denholm said. “Our men’s team was young this winter, with just one senior, and the team played its best basketball at the end of the season.”

Lorensen was hired in April 2018 to replace 22-year head coaching veteran Brian Van Haaften. His BVU team began league play in the American Rivers Conference this season 2-8, but soon rounded into form and won two of its last three games after pushing defending national champion Nebraska Wesleyan to the wire on the road.

“I’d like to thank President Merchant, Jack Denholm, and the entire Buena Vista University community for the opportunity to serve as the Head Men’s Basketball Coach” says Lorensen.  “I’m thankful for the relationships I have made at BV and look forward to seeing the future successes of the program and institution.  I have decided it is best for me and my family to pursue other professional opportunities and have resigned from the position.”

Denholm noted that a national search to name a head coach is underway.
