Loyola Marymount parts ways with Mike Dunlap

Loyola Marymount University and Mike Dunlap, men’s basketball head coach, have agreed to part ways, Athletic Director Craig Pintens announced Sunday. The change is effective immediately to allow the program to seek a new leader for the Lions.

“Mike has created a tremendous foundation for us to build on, elevating our program in so many areas,” said Pintens.

In 2018-19, Dunlap led the team to an unprecedented 8-0 start, and the Lions returned to the postseason for the third time since 1990. The Lions also claimed the 2018 Jamaica Classic title. In six seasons coaching the Lions, Dunlap’s record was 80-107.

“Coach Dunlap leads with integrity, setting high standards for student-athletes. He successfully graduated every student-athlete who exhausted eligibility and developed young men who exemplify LMU values long after graduation. We are grateful for Mike’s commitment to the players, his colleagues and the university. LMU Athletics will continue to focus on the long-term success of our men’s basketball program and fulfilling its mission to pursue victory with honor,” Pintens said.
