The Marquette University men’s basketball program has announced the addition of three individuals to the staff for the 2023-24 campaign, as well as title changes for a pair of returning staff members under third-year head coach Shaka Smart.
Nevada Smith and Mark Dixon will shift to assistant coach roles within the program, while Chris Howell (Program Assistant), Devon Mulry (Director, Video & Analytics) and Alexis Peterson (Executive Assistant to the Head Coach) all join the university for the upcoming season.
Smith, who worked with Smart at Texas, has served as assistant to the head coach each of the past two seasons and helped developed Marquette’s offensive attack into one of the nation’s top units. Dixon has been a graduate assistant for the Golden Eagles the last two years and also worked one season at Texas under Smart.
As of July 1, new NCAA rules allow for programs to have as many as five assistant coaches on the court, but only three assistants and the head coach are allowed on the road recruiting.
Howell played at both South Dakota State and Jackson State before moving into coaching, most recently working as an assistant coach at Hill Community College in 2022-23. Mulry was on Smart’s staff at Texas as director of player development and also worked in a variety of roles with the men’s basketball program at Michigan, his alma mater.
Peterson arrives on campus after most recently working as Special Assistant/Director of Scheduling in Milwaukee’s Office of the Mayor from 2012-23. Her responsibilities included vetting and scheduling in-and-out of office meetings and public and private events, preparing briefing materials and assisting with logistics for projects including the State of the City gatherings, 2020 DNC Convention bid and special mayoral conferences.
