The University of Maryland has suspended assistant men’s basketball coach Bruce Shingler. UM officials released the following statement:
“Maryland men’s basketball assistant coach Bruce Shingler has been suspended for 30 days for a violation of his employment agreement.”
No other details were given, and there were no other comments made by the athletic department.
Shingler joined the Terps staff back in June, after spending five seasons with Frank Martin at South Carolina. The DMV native has also worked at Towson and Morgan State.
Maryland’s staff is already short-handed, following the departure of former head coach Mark Turgeon in December. Assistant coach Danny Manning was elevated to interim head coach, replacing Turgeon, and DBO Greg Manning was bumped up to fill the vacated assistant spot.
“All this happened pretty quickly. We’re just trying to keep our head above water and move forward,” Danny Manning said following last night’s 94-87 2OT win at Northwestern. “You know, we’ll see how it plays out as we continue to go down this path.”
There is no word yet on any further staff movement.
