The SUNY Cobleskill Department of Sport & Exercise announced that head men’s basketball coach Matt Allen will be resigning to accept the position of head women’s basketball coach at Wilson College in Chambersburg, Pa. Allen took over the Cobleskill program in the 2008-09 season and over eight years as head coach guided the Fighting Tigers to a 67-139 overall record including a 43-53 mark in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play.

“On behalf of the Department of Sport & Exercise I would like to wish coach Allen well in his new position at Wilson College and thank him for his service to our institution,” said Cobleskill Athletic Director Kevin McCarthy. “Given the late date of coach Allen’s departure, we will immediately begin the process of starting a search for a new head men’s basketball coach.”

Allen came to Cobleskill after serving as Associate Men’s Head Coach Leigh University in Bethlehem, Pa. in 2008-09 to oversee the program’s transition from the junior college level of competition to the NCAA Division III level of competition. The program’s high watermark under his direction came in the 2014-15 season when the Fighting Tigers posted their first winning season at the four-year level of play recording a 17-11 overall record including a 13-4 conference record on their way to capturing the NEAC North Division regular season title and NEAC Tournament Championship to earn Cobleskill’s first NCAA Division III National Tournament Bid.  This past season the Fighting Tigers went 3-22 overall with a 3-14 record in conference competition.
