University of Detroit Mercy head men’s basketball coach Bacari Alexander ’99 finalized his 2017-18 coaching staff for the upcoming season with the addition of Max Bent as a graduate assistant.
Coach Alexander also announced that second-year graduate assistant Collin Barth will be the video analyst this season.
“I’m very pleased about the addition of Max Bent to our program and look forward to his contributions over the next two seasons,” said coach Alexander. “In any program, you want to be able to provide opportunities for growth and Collin Barth has earned his new role as video analyst.”
No stranger to coach Alexander and Titan assistant coach Pete Kahler, Bent worked as a student manager for the University of Michigan men’s basketball program the last four years, serving as head manager as a senior.
His duties included breaking down game and practice film, scouting future opponents, and assisting the coaches, players and support staff in day-to-day basketball activities. He performed tasks with the Director of Basketball Operations, Director of Player Personnel, Video Analyst, and Graduate Manager.
Bent was also a camp counselor for the John Beilein and U-M basketball camps.
“Max worked tirelessly over the years in Ann Arbor under a great program led by John Beilein, and to attract a graduate assistant of his caliber is very exciting,” added coach Alexander.
Barth completed his first year as a graduate assistant with the Detroit Mercy men’s basketball program in 2016-17, helping the program in a number of areas. He assisted in all daily practice and scout preparation and helped the coaches in all areas of day-to-day duties.
“Collin’s new duties will allow him to be involved in different aspects of the program, which should serve him well moving forward,” said coach Alexander. “My staff and I couldn’t be more pleased with his willingness to grow.”
The Titans are currently in the midst of summer workouts on campus as they get ready for the official start of practice in the fall. They recently released their full con-conference schedule, which includes games against Michigan, Saint Louis, UCLA and Virginia Tech.
