Newman Men’s Basketball announces the addition of Kyle McLeroy as Assistant Coach for the 2021-2022 campaign.

McLeroy comes to the Jets from Dallas Baptist University where he served as Graduate Assistant for two seasons.  The Patriots were 21-9 in year one and landed a berth in the NCAA tournament.  In 2020-2021 Kyle helped DBU return to the NCAA tournament posting a 17-5 record.

McLeroy is eager to get going this season.  He said, “I’m really excited for the opportunity to coach in the best conference in Division II.  We as a staff are ready to get to work with this group of guys we have for this upcoming season.”
A 2011 graduate from Cypress Ranch High School in Cypress, Texas, Kyle began his college playing career at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. During the 2011-2012 season, UMHB went 25-3 and was ranked as high as No. 5 in the D3 national poll. Following a redshirt year, Kyle transferred to Sam Houston State University.

Kyle’s two seasons at Sam Houston State were two of the most successful seasons in school history. The Bearkats finished with a record of 24-11 in 2013-2014. The 2014-2015 season saw the team set the school’s NCAA Division I best win mark with a final record of 26-9. During Kyle’s tenure at Sam Houston State, the Bearkats made two trips to the Southland Conference Championship game and two second round appearances in the College Insider Tournament.

McLeroy earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Sam Houston State University and his Master’s in Sports Management from Dallas Baptist University. Kyle and his wife, Kimberly, reside in Wichita.
