McSloy Named Gettysburg College Men’s Basketball Assistant Coach

Gettysburg College men’s head basketball coach B.J. Dunne is pleased to announce the hiring of Mike McSloy as the assistant men’s basketball coach.

“It is with great excitement and energy that we add Mike McSloy to our coaching staff and to the Bullets family,” stated Dunne. “I had the pleasure of working with Mike for a year at Vassar College and was impressed with not only the job he did as our assistant coach, but more importantly who he was as a person. Mike is a great teacher of the game, relentless recruiter, and strong relationship builder. His experiences with NESCAC, Liberty League, and the UAA will be invaluable to our student-athletes, athletics department and institution as we work to build on the rich basketball tradition at Gettysburg and build a program of unparalleled quality in the region and nationally. Mike is a great fit for our program’s culture and the Gettysburg community.”

“I am extremely grateful to be named the next assistant men’s basketball coach at Gettysburg College.” said McSloy. “I am excited to join an athletic department with such deep history of success. The opportunity to reunite with Coach Dunne is special and I cannot wait to get started.”

Prior to Gettysburg, McSloy most recently served as an assistant coach and co-recruiting coordinator at New York University (2016-2018). During his two seasons at NYU, numerous Violets players were recognized with accolades. Among the players earning accolades was 2018 graduate Ross Udine. Udine ended his career Top 10 in points (1,276) and holds the career record for assists (571). The 2017-2018 season resulted in three Violets receiving All-University Athletic Association honors. Senior Ross Udine and junior Ethan Feldman were both named Second Team All-UAA, while sophomore Dom Cristiano was named All-UAA Honorable Mention.

McSloy joined the NYU staff after serving as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Vassar College during the 2015-16 season where he worked with Gettysburg head coach B.J. Dunne. He helped lead the Brewers to the Liberty League Tournament and coached a pair of Second Team All-Liberty League players. He was also the assistant facilities director at Vassar.

Before he went to Vassar, he spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Connecticut College (2013-15) and one season in the same role at SUNY Maritime College (2012-13).

McSloy was a two-year member of the SUNY Maritime basketball team after transferring from SUNY Oswego. At SUNY Maritime, McSloy served as team captain as a senior, earning Second Team All-Skyline Conference honors. He finished his senior year ranked 25th nationally in scoring (21.0 ppg) and led the Skyline in free-throw percentage (82.0). He graduated from SUNY Maritime with a Bachelor of Science degree in international trade and transportation in 2013.
