Mincey added to Montevallo Basketball Staff

The Montevallo men’s basketball has brought in Byron Mincey to serve as the head assistant coach, head coach Danny Young announced Wednesday.  Mincey joins Montevallo after serving as an assistant coach for six seasons at Central Georgia Technical College in Macon, Georgia under head coach Reco Dawson.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity God has given me to make an impact on other people’s lives through the game of basketball. I am appreciative for Coach Danny Young, Athletic Director Mark Richard & the administration for granting me this opportunity,” remarked Mincey. “The University of Montevallo is where I am supposed to be, the future is incredibly bright here. I will take pride and work relentlessly to continue its tradition.”

Byron Mincey, a native of Argyle, GA, started his coaching career at College of Coastal Georgia as a student manager before finishing as a student assistant. During his time there, he worked under Gerald Cox and Jesse Watkins.  During his time at Central Georgia, he helped lead the Titans to three GCAA Tournament Championships, one GCAA Regular Season Championship, three national tournament appearances along with one GCAA Tournament Runner-up.

During his tenure at Central Georgia Technical College, he assisted the Titans to an overall record of 125-60, along with numerous top-25 rankings. Mincey’s responsibilities at CGTC included assisting with the day-to-day basketball operations, on-floor coaching, recruiting/scouting, player development, strength & conditioning, video coordinator, academic coordinator, housing supervisor, and helped coordinate summer camps. During his time as academic coordinator, the men’s team placed above 3.0 gpa numerous times including a 3.6 team gpa for 20-21.  While on staff at CGTC, Mincey helped mentor two All-Americans, numerous All-GCAA selections along with assisting in placing over 30 student-athletes at the four-year level. Mincey also assisted in the development of the GCAA Conference Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year.

In 2018, Mincey was recognized as one of the Top Junior College Assistant Coaches Under 30-years-old by Coachstat.net.  Mincey is a member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), Rising Coaches Association & Minority Coaches Association of Georgia (MCA of GA).

Mincey received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Public Affairs with a concentration in Public Management from College of Coastal Georgia in 2015.
