Mount St. Joseph adds Goodwin as Assistant Basketball Coach

The Mount St. Joseph University men’s basketball program is excited to announce the addition of Jalen Goodwin as the program’s assistant coach.

Goodwin comes to the Mount from Oberlin College where he was the assistant coach from 2018-2022.  He also served as the Head Coach of the junior varsity team.  During his four years at Oberlin, Coach Goodwin helped 4 players reach the 1,000 point mark, while also coaching the school’s all-time assist leader. He was a part of the record-breaking seasons that saw Oberlin earn a school record of NCAC wins in a single season and the most overall wins in a season since 1991-92. He also served on the athletic department’s DEI commitee and is a member of the Black Coaches Association.

Prior to Oberlin, Goodwin served as the graduate assistant for the Otterbein University men’s basketball team.  His duties included assisting in recruiting, player development, study tables and coordinating youth basketball camps.  He received a master’s degree in Allied Health in Exercise and Health Science.

Goodwin began his coaching career at the University of Northwestern Ohio as the top assistant and Head Coach of the junior varsity team.  Goodwin was responsible for player recruitment and development and was the team’s academic advisor.

Goodwin, a Lakota East High School graduate and standout player for the Thunderhawks, was a three-year starter, two-time All-GMC second team selection, two-time All-GMC Academic team selection and a member of the 2010-11 District Championship team.

He continued his basketball success at the College of Wooster where he was a four-year letterman for the Scots which posted a 99-22 record during his career and played in four consecutive NCAA tournaments, reaching the Sweet 16 twice.  Goodwin graduated with a degree in Communication Studies and was selected to participate in the year-long NCAC Branch Rickey Mentorship Program and served as a member of the Wooster Student-Athlete Advisory Council.
