Neal Scaggs has been promoted to director of operations for Marshall men’s basketball, the program announced Thursday.
The Logan, W.Va., native directs the day-to-day operations of the program and acts as the main liaison between the team and other areas in the athletics department and university. He oversees team budget, travel, scheduling and program advancement.
Prior to his current role, he spent 10 months as the program’s video coordinator, assisting in self- and opponent-video analysis.
“Neal is moving up from our video coordinator position,” second-year Herd coach Dan D’Antoni said. “I used to call him ‘Walt Disney’ because I thought he did a great job with our film and productions. He handled that job well. As far as this job, he’s knowledgeable about how we do things here, about all the personnel in the athletic department and on campus. I thought he was the perfect fit. I’m sure he’ll do a great job for us. It’s where he wants to go as far as personal development, and we’re happy to have him.”
Scaggs has been part of the Thundering Herd since 2009, spending two years as a student manager (2009-11), two years as head manager (2011-13), and two years as graduate assistant and video coordinator (2013-15). He received his undergraduate degree in sport management from Marshall in 2013, and earned a master’s degree in adult technical education in 2015. Scaggs resides in Huntington with his dog, Scratch.
