Newbury College Men’s Basketball Adds Donald Morris, Daivon Edwards to Coaching Staff

Nighthawks Men’s Basketball Head Coach Rich Fazzi announced Monday the addition of two members to his coaching staff. Donald Morris, who has experience in the New England Collegiate Conference in his 13 years in collegiate coaching and Daivon Edwards, a graduate of the Class fo 2018 and former four-year member of the Nighthawks program from 2014-2018.

Morris, who guided the Daniel Webster Eagles from 2014-2017, led the former NECC squad to three straight playoff appearances. Prior to his time with the Eagles, Morris spent eight years in the coaching ranks at Lesley University, including six as a head coach for the Lynx men’s program.

“I’m very excited to add Coach Morris to the coaching staff this season,” said Fazzi. “He has worked with a number of talented people in his career and knows the landscape of this conference. He will be an incredible asset in coaching, recruiting, and helping our team to the next level.”

Morris is also responsible for coaching and developing two Division III All-American players and eight players who play internationally. His experience also includes working with staff from the Boston Celtics, Orlando Magic, and Minnesota Timberwolves, as well as scouting for the New England Falcons Women’s Professional Team.

Edwards begins his collegiate coaching career under Fazzi, who coached him in his final season in 2017-18. In that season, Edwards averaged more points, more minutes, and more rebounds, while shooting better from the field and foul line than any other year in his career.

“Coach Edwards is going to be great for this program,” said Fazzi. “I was recruiting him out of high school and finally got the opportunity to coach him last season at Newbury. He knows this program and what it’s like to run this system. He’ll be valuable when it comes to first-hand experience and knowledge of the expectations.”

Edwards is also a member of the 1,000-point club and holds the program records for three’s made in a game (9), three’s made in a season (109), and second-most three’s in a career (202).

Morris and Edwards join Ceejae Carter on the coaching staff. Carter served as an assistant last season in his first year of coaching and will enter his second season with Fazzi and the Nighthawks in 2018-19.
