Nichols College men’s basketball head coach Tom Glynn has announced the addition of Michael Byrnes to his coaching staff.
Currently a junior at Nichols, Byrnes has served as an assistant basketball coach at WPI since 2013, where he’s worked as the recruiting coordinator and director of basketball operations. The Engineers recorded back-to-back 20-win seasons which resulted in a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances in 2013-14 and 2014-15, and the squad owns a combined record of 43-11 during his tenure on staff.
“Mike is going to be a tremendous addition to our program here at Nichols College,” said Glynn, who guided the Bison to a 20-6 mark in his first season in Dudley. “He is a tireless worker who has established recruiting contacts in New England and beyond. Mike has experienced many successes on the court as an assistant coach at WPI and at the AAU level.”
Byrnes is currently the head coach and assistant program director of the Central Mass Swarm, a position he has held since 2012. His responsibilities include skill workouts, conducting practice, managing games, recruiting, and tournament scheduling. The program consists of nine teams which compete in some of the most prestigious AAU tournaments on the East Coast.
A native of Dudley, Byrnes has also been a head coach for Dudley Youth Basketball (2012-13), Charlton Middle School (2012-13), and Shepherd Hill Summer League (2011-13).
