NJIT Basketball Staff Update

I first mentioned these moves back on August 20th (NJIT DIRT) – today they were officially announced by the college. Here’s the release by NJIT:

NJIT men’s basketball Head Coach Brian Kennedy has announced updates to his coaching staff as the squad has officially opened practice with the 2019-20 season a little more than one month away.

The fourth-year Head Coach promoted Joe Gutowski to a full-time Assistant Coach role and hired Danny Manuel as the program’s new Director of Basketball Operation.

Gutowski, who spent the last two seasons in the Director of Basketball Operations role, helped the program to a record-breaking season in 2019-20 as the team won a program-best 22 games and earned its first-ever ASUN Tournament win on the road at Florida Gulf Coast.

“I’m so excited to announce the promotion of Joe Gutowski to a full-time assistant role,” explained Kennedy. “Joe’s commitment to the NJIT men’s basketball program the past two years as our DOBO has been unparalleled and I have no doubt that he will be extremely successful in his new duties, while continuing to provide our student-athletes with the absolute best care they deserve.”

Manuel comes to NJIT following a stint as the Head Coach at The Miller School, a prep school in Charlottesville, VA.

“We are so excited to introduce Danny Manuel as NJIT’s new men’s basketball Director of Operations,” added Kennedy. “Danny brings with him a wealth of coaching experience from the high school and collegiate levels, most recently serving as the Head Coach at his alma mater, the prestigious Miller School of Virginia. Coach Manuel led Miller to the last three VA State Championship games including the 2018 title. The Highlander Family welcomes Dan as he begins the next chapter in his coaching career.”

The Highlanders will open their 2019-20 campaign on November 6, when they travel to Hamilton, NY, to take on Colgate.
