I mentioned this move in the DAILY DIRT back on 7/11. It’s now official – here’s the release from BU:
Khalil Griffith has joined the Boston University men’s basketball team as director of operations, head coach Joe Jones announced Monday morning.
A graduate of Ithaca College, Griffith spent the past season at Amherst as an assistant coach after working in Beijing, China, for three years with the basketball program at The Affiliated High School of Peking University.
“We are extremely excited about bringing Khalil Griffith into our basketball family,” said Jones. “Khalil is a talented young coach who will bring a wealth of knowledge and energy into our program. He is a true mentor of young people and will have a positive impact on our players.”
While in China, Griffith served two seasons as an assistant and one year as the head coach and director of basketball through a partnership with Montverde Academy (Fla). During his tenure, the team garnered a 67-8 record and #1 national ranking.
He also spent multiple years at the prep school level with stops at Trinity Preparatory School (Fla.) and The Loom’s Chaffee School (Conn.). He graduated in 2016 from Ithaca College with a bachelor’s in sport management and later from the University of Connecticut with a master’s in sport management while serving as a graduate assistant.
Outside of coaching, he has conducted research on accessibility in youth sports programming, particularly with relation to socioeconomic status. His research and coaching experience has taken him to many countries, including Spain, Morocco, Dominican Republic, England, Canada, Vietnam and Kenya.
