I mentioned this move back on 4/2 (DAILY DIRT) – it’s now official. D3 Rowan University (NJ) head coach Eric Brennan is headed to Air Force where he will become an assistant coach. Here’s the announcement from Rowan on Brennan’s departure:
Rowan University’s head men’s basketball coach Eric Brennan, Ed.D., has accepted the position of assistant men’s basketball coach at the Air Force Academy, it was announced by Rowan director of athletics Shawn Tucker. A national search for the Profs’ next head coach will begin immediately with the position to be posted by April 13th.
The move reunites Brennan with former Rowan head coach Joe Crispin (2016-23), who was recently named the head coach at Air Force. Brennan served as an assistant coach on Crispin’s staff with the Profs from 2018 to 2023.
“We are grateful to Eric for the leadership he has provided our men’s basketball program and his dedication to maintaining the winning tradition of Profs’ basketball. We are excited to see him take the next step in his coaching career and for this tremendous opportunity for his family – Jess and Silas. The Rowan Athletics staff and community wishes them all the best,” said Tucker.
Brennan completed his third season as Rowan’s head coach in 2025-26, and his eighth overall at the school. After serving as the interim head coach for the 2023-24 season, he was officially appointed to the position. He compiled a 43-39 overall record and a 31-23 mark in New Jersey Athletic Conference play in the three seasons.
In his first season, Rowan went 21-8 overall and made its second consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament, while earning the Profs’ second straight NJAC regular-season title. He and his assistant coaches were named the 2024 NJAC John K. Adams Coaching Staff of the Year.
Statement from Eric Brennan:
“After eight unforgettable years at Rowan University, the last three as head coach of the men’s basketball program, I have made the difficult decision to step down.
This place has truly shaped my life. The relationships, the growth, and the memories we created together will stay with me forever.
Our staff has been fortunate enough to coach a First Team All-American, the NJAC Player of the Year, the NJAC Defensive Player of the Year, and multiple NABC All-District selections while also reaching the NCAA Sweet 16. None of these accomplishments are possible without the players, coaches, and support staff at Rowan that made every day impactful and meaningful.
I’d like to give a huge thanks to Dr. John Giannini for giving a young assistant coach the opportunity to be a head coach. I’m extremely grateful to Shawn Tucker for his guidance and support this past year. Under his leadership, I have great belief in where Rowan Athletics is headed.
While this chapter closes, I’m excited for what lies ahead. I will carry the lessons I learned at Rowan with me on the rest of my journey. Thank you to everyone who was part of it. This will always feel like home.”
