Following-up on some D2 DIRT from last night…Anderson University has now officially announced the head men’s basketball coach Jeff Brookman has resigned. Here’s the release from AU:
Anderson University Vice President for Athletics, Dr. Bert Epting, Jr. has announced that men’s basketball head coach Jeff Brookman has resigned in order to pursue other opportunities.
“I want to sincerely thank Jeff and his family for all they have done for our men’s basketball program over the last seven years,” said Epting. “His dedication and care for our student-athletes was greatly appreciated and we wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors.”
Brookman was as assistant on the AU coaching staff during the 2009-10 campaign when the Trojans got off to their best start in school history, with the season culminating in the program’s first-ever bid to the NCAA Tournament, then moved on to Spartanburg Methodist in 2010. Brookman averaged 24 wins per season over his last five years at the helm of the Pioneers’ program, compiling a 120-42 record in Spartanburg. For his efforts Brookman earned back-to-back Region X Coach of the Year accolades in 2012 and 2013.
After his earlier stint as an assistant coach at AU, Brookman returned to the Electric City as the Trojans’ head coach prior to the 2015 season. The Charlotte, N.C., native’s tenure ended after seven seasons and an 81-110 overall record, including a 60-87 mark in the South Atlantic Conference.
Brookman guided the Trojans to five appearances in the South Atlantic Conference Tournament, but he was able to lead the Black and Gold past the first round of the postseason tournament just once – following last year’s Covid-19 shortened season.
His most successful season came during the 2019-20 campaign, when the Trojans posted a 17-12 overall record, while going 12-10 in the conference.
“The foundation of Anderson University men’s basketball is strong and our new coach will have the opportunity to build on that legacy,” added Epting. “Again, we are thankful for all Jeff did and are excited for the future of AU men’s basketball.”
A national search will begin immediately to find a successor for Brookman.
