OFFICIAL: Duffy named Head Basketball Coach at D3 Mount Saint Mary College

I mentioned this one on Monday (DAILY DIRT 2). It’s now official…Mike Duffy has been named as the head men’s basketball coach at D3 Mount Saint Mary College (NY). Here’s the release from the college:

Mount Saint Mary College Director of Athletics Samantha Howe has announced the hiring of Mike Duffy as the next Head Coach of the Mount Saint Mary College men’s basketball program. Duffy becomes the sixth head coach in program history, taking over for Ryan Kadlubowski.

“We are excited to officially welcome Mike Duffy as our next Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Mount Saint Mary College,” said Howe. “His values and approach align with the culture we continue to build within our men’s basketball program and the MSMC Athletics community. We are thrilled to add Mike to our staff and look forward to the positive impact he will have on our student-athletes, program, and campus community.”

Duffy arrives in Newburgh after spending the last five seasons on the coaching staff at SUNY New Paltz, where he served as the Hawks’ lead Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach through the 2025-26 season. During his tenure, Duffy played an integral role in helping guide the Hawks to unprecedented success within the SUNYAC Conference.

During the 2024-25 campaign, Duffy helped lead New Paltz to its best SUNYAC regular season finish in program history, as the Hawks secured the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament and earned hosting duties for the postseason for the first time ever. Duffy was also instrumental in helping the Hawks produce their winningest season in program history in 2023-24, finishing 20-8 overall while capturing the program’s first-ever SUNYAC Championship. New Paltz clinched the conference title with a road upset over nationally fifth-ranked Oswego State.

“I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to lead the Men’s Basketball program at Mount Saint Mary College,” added Duffy. “I want to especially thank Samantha Howe and the entire search committee for their trust and belief in my vision for the program. Throughout this process, it was clear how connected and supportive the MSMC community and Athletic Department are. I’m excited to build meaningful relationships with our student-athletes and work every day to continue building a championship-caliber program that represents the Mount with pride, character, and purpose.”

Prior to his time at New Paltz, Duffy spent three seasons at Western New England University in Springfield, Massachusetts. Beginning as a Graduate Assistant before being elevated to lead Assistant Coach, Duffy helped the Golden Bears achieve one of their most successful stretches in recent history. In his first season on staff during the 2018-19 campaign, Western New England recorded its highest win total since the 2009-10 season and earned its first Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament victory since 2007-08. The following season, the Golden Bears ranked third nationally in assists per game while placing four student-athletes on CCC All-Conference teams.

Duffy earned his Master of Science degree in Sport Leadership and Coaching from Western New England University in 2020 after receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Management from New York University in 2016.
