OFFICIAL: McCann Named Head Coach at Palm Beach State

We’ve been talking about this one for a while.  I mentioned back April 9th that Palm Beach State has removed the interim tag from head coach Martin McCann.  The school has finally made it official and released the following statement:

Palm Beach State has officially taken the interim tag from Men’s Basketball coach Martin McCann as he has been chosen from a list of 124 applicants to lead the Panthers again next season. In so doing, the 26 year old will accept his first official college head coaching job of his career. With the sudden departure of then Head Coach Scott McMillin in the Spring of 2014, McCann, his assistant at the time, agreed to take the interim tag for the 2014-15 season. McCann led the Panthers to a 20-10 record which was only the 4th time in the past 15 seasons that the PBSC men’s basketball team has achieved that accomplishment. In addition, he tutored 1 FCSAA All State player and 2 All Southern Conference 1st team members along with being rated in the top 50 in the NJCAA Massey Power ratings.

Panther Athletic Director Dr. David Holstein stated, ” It is with great pleasure and privilege that we welcome Coach McCann to the Panther Nation. Mr. McCann has exhibited in his short stay that he has the capacity to connect with the millineal generation athlete while conveying qualities of a mature “old school” values type of coach. We feel both of those attributes will not only assist him in getting our program back to national recognition but will be of great service to him as he takes the exciting journey of being a college head coach.”

McCann will begin his official full time duties beginning April 16.
