Southern Wesleyan is excited to announce the hiring of Nick Pasqua as the new head Men’s Basketball Coach for the Warriors.

“Coach Pasqua is a Christ-centered, relationship driven leader who is committed to developing our men’s basketball players spiritually, academically and athletically,” said Director of Athletics Chris Williams.  “He possesses solid NCAA Division II experience both as a player and a coach. His knowledge of Conference Carolinas will benefit our program immediately.  I am excited to watch Coach Pasqua use his passion for the game and clear vision on how to build a program capable of competing within Conference Carolinas all the while staying focused on developing champions for Christ on the court, in the classroom and in the community.”

Pasqua comes to SWU from Tusculum College where he served as the Head Coach.  During his time at Tusculum, he helped guide the team to their single season school record for most 3-point field goals made with 317. Under his guidance the team averaged 81.3 points per game with an average of 11.7 three point goals per game, which was 10thin the NCAA DII.

“We are very excited to start a new chapter with SWU basketball next year with Coach Pasqua at the helm,” said freshman Jacob Smith. “Coach Pasqua comes to us with a wealth of basketball knowledge especially in the area of offense. We are looking forward to seeing just what SWU basketball can become under his leadership.”

Prior to being the head coach at Tusculum College, Pasqua served as the Associate Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator at King University. While serving at King, he helped the Tornado reach the Conference Carolinas tournament on several occasions, including assisting in leading them to be the Conference Carolinas Tournament Champions during the 2015-2016 campaign where they were also announced to be in the NABC and CoSIDA top 25 and were the number two seed in the NCAA Southeast Regional Tournament.  During the 2009 through 2011 season, Pasqua assisted the program in the transition from the NAIA to the NCAA.

“I am looking forward to working alongside Coach Pasqua,” said Men’s Basketball sophomore Terry House. “For one he’s been in the conference for eight plus years, so he knows our competitors and how to play against them. He also brings a fresh perspective to our basketball program.  He is young, enthusiastic and very passionate about winning and being a part of the growth of SWU.”

Pasqua gained his bachelors in Sports Management from King University where he played basketball for the Tornado.  Upon graduation, he was asked to join the coaching staff at King where he served as the Head JV Coach and Assistant Varsity Coach from 2008 to 2011.

“I am extremely excited to be joining the SWU family as the Head Men’s Basketball Coach,” said Pasqua. “I look forward to building a program that the university and town of Central can be proud of.  This is an exciting time to be at SWU, and I am very thankful to Dr. Voss, Athletic Director Williams, and the rest of the search committee for the opportunity to lead the men’s basketball program.”
