Head Coach Jason Eaker has announced the Oklahoma Baptist Coaches Clinic for Sunday, Sept. 29, from 1-5 p.m. in the Noble Complex on the campus of OBU. Admission to the clinic is $25 at the door, and all attendees will receive a notebook for the clinic as part of their attendance fee.
The clinic will feature many prominent collegiate coaches as Eaker and his staff have put together an all-star lineup. Scheduled speakers include University of Central Oklahoma head coach Bob Hoffman, Liberty University’s Ritchie McKay, former Oklahoma Christian head coach Dan Hays, Doug Esleeck of UNC-Wilmington, Angie Nelp of Arizona State, Scott Norris of Edmond North, and renowned leadership consultant, speaker and author Kevin DeShazo of Culture Wins.
Eaker enters his second season as coach of the Bison after a stellar
turnaround season that saw OBU go from last place to third place in the
GAC in just his first season at the helm. Eaker has stops at Mercer,
Liberty, Oklahoma, and Texas-Pan American in his coaching career.

Coaches Clinic Speakers
Bob Hoffman | Head Coach | Central Oklahoma
Bob Hoffman was recently named the head man of Central Oklahoma after
spending 11 years with the Mercer Bears, winning 209 games, including a
memorable upset of No. 3 Duke in the 2014 NCAA Tournament.
Hoffman, an OBU alum, has coaching stops at SNU, OBU, Texas-Pan
American, and Oklahoma. He won an NAIA national title with the Crimson
Storm women’s basketball program and recorded 243 victories throughout
the 90s as the head coach of the Bison men’s team and is enshrined in
the school’s Hall of Fame.
Hoffman is also a former OBU player, scoring over 1,000 career points.
Ritchie McKay | Head Coach | Liberty
Ritchie McKay has been the head coach of Liberty University since 2015
after spending six seasons under Tony Bennett at Virginia.
In four seasons since returning to Liberty, McKay has led the Flames to
three straight 20-plus win seasons, including a school-record 29
victories during the 2018-19 season. History was also made that season
as Liberty won its first-ever NCAA Tournament game, upsetting No. 5
Mississippi State.
Dan Hays | Former Head Coach | Oklahoma Christian
Dan Hays is one of the most well-known basketball names in the state of
Oklahoma, leading the Oklahoma Christian Eagles to 653 wins in 33
seasons before retiring in 2016.
Hays had the most wins of any coach at a four-year member institution in
Oklahoma with 724. The Eagles won six of their 10 Sooner Athletic
Conference regular-season championships and their only SAC tournament
title during Hays’ tenure and he coached two NAIA Players of the Year.
Doug Esleeck | Associate Head Coach | UNC-Wilmington
Doug Esleeck joined the UNC-Wilmington staff in 2017 where he serves as
the Associate Head Coach after spending seven seasons at Mercer in the
same role. Esleeck was a part of Mercer’s memorable upset of No. 3 Duke
in 2014.
Prior to his stint at Mercer, Esleeck spent four seasons at
Gardner-Webb, helping raise the team’s profile which included a regular
season upset of No. 20 Kentucky.
Angie Nelp | Assistant Coach | Arizona State
Angie Nelp has been at Arizona State since 2017 where she serves as Assistant Coach.
Nelp joined ASU from Rice University in the same role where she helped
guide the Owls to a WBI Championship (the school’s first postseason
title) and 22 victories in 2016-17, the second-most wins in a single
season.
Before Rice, Nelp spent four seasons with Mercer and served a role in basketball relations with Marquette.
Scott Norris | Head Coach | Edmond North HS
Scott Norris was named the Head Coach at Edmond North High School in October of 2018.
Norris is a 29-year veteran of both high school and collegiate
basketball which includes stops at OBU, Missouri State, and Coweta High
School.
Norris is an alum of Oklahoma Baptist and played basketball for the Bison.
Kevin DeShazo | Culture Wins
Author of Leadership Interrupted, Kevin DeShazo is the founder of
Fieldhouse Media, Senior Consultant with GiANT Worldwide, and partner
with Culture Wins – the sports division of GiANT.
He is a sought-after speaker, having presented on over 200 college
campuses, and is a regular presenter at national conferences and
conventions, including NACDA, CoSIDA, the NCAA Convention, and the
Collegiate Athletics Leadership Symposium.
