Omaha Basketball Staff Update

Head men’s basketball coach Chris Crutchfield completes his coaching staff with the additions of Warren Niles and Brandt Danals. Niles joins the Mavericks as an assistant coach, while Danals will be the director of operations.

Niles comes to Omaha after serving as a graduate assistant for the Oregon men’s basketball team. While with the Ducks, Niles helped with the day-to-day operations, travel arrangements, and film.

“It’s not often that you get a chance to recruit a guy and end up hiring him to work with you,” said Crutchfield. “I’ve known Warren since he was 18, and he played for me at Oral Roberts. Warren spent the last year with me at Oregon. He has a great presence with young people and is a rising star in the profession. I am happy to have him join our staff and be a mentor for these young men.”

Niles began his playing career at ORU in 2009. With the Golden Eagles, he was a four-year starter and appeared in the most games in program history. Niles finished his career eighth on the program’s all-time scoring list and third on the three-point field goals made list. As a freshman, earned All-America honors and set the freshman single-game scoring record with 39 points.

In addition to his All-America nod, Niles earned NABC First Team All-District, First Team All-Southland, Honorable Mention All-Summit, Summit League All-Newcomer, and several Player of the Week accolades over his career.

“I am super excited to work for a mentor of mine in Crutch at Omaha,” said Niles. “I have known Crutch and his family since I was 18. He is one of the best in the business, and I am blessed to be able to work for him. I can’t wait to get to Omaha and get to work. Go Mavs!”

After wrapping up his ORU career, Niles played professionally overseas for five years. He logged minutes with Poiters and Boulonge in France, Massagno in Switzerland, OKC Blue G-League in Culiacan, Yokohama in Japan, and Imola in Italy.

Danals joins the Mavericks after previously serving as the director of basketball operations at North Alabama for two seasons. While with the Lions, Danals assisted with managing the team’s budget, coordinated travel, monitors academic success of the athletes, managed the coaches’ schedules, and handled social media accounts.

“When I set out to look for an operations guy, experience is what I was looking for, and boy did we get lucky with Brandt,” said Crutchfield. “He brings years of leadership, on the floor coaching experience, and operations experience to our program. Brandt is a servant of young people and will be a great addition to our Maverick family.”

Prior to North Alabama, Danals spent two years as the director of athletics with Holy Family College. He supervised 12 NAIA varsity sports and helped develop a strategic -athletic marketing initiative. The marketing plan included department branding, website design, live streaming of athletic events, social media promotion, and an equipment contract with Nike and BSN Sports.

Danals managed the department budget and helped launch three new varsity sports. Bowling, track & field, and women’s soccer all started under his tenure.

In addition to his director of athletic duties, Danals served as the head men’s basketball coach at Holy Family. He guided the team to the most wins in program history and their first ever appearance in the national tournament in the 2019-20 season. Danals recruited three USCAA All-Americans, three NAIA All-Conference players, and four USCAA Academic All-Americans at Holy Family.

“The opportunity to join Coach Crutchfield and the rest of the staff in Omaha is a blessing for my family and I,” said Danals. “I can’t wait to get to work and help our program win on the court, in the classroom, and in the Omaha community!”

Danals also served as an assistant coach at Indiana Tech from 2013 to 2018. He helped the team achieve 100 wins over five seasons, helped recruit four All-Americans, nine All-League performers and two Newcomers of the Year. Danals got his start in collegiate coaching as a volunteer assistant with Ashland in 2010-11.
