Pennell Named Interim Head Coach at Arizona

Russ Pennell, an assistant at PAC-10 rival Arizona State from 1998-2006, has taken over as the Interim Head Coach at Arizona. Pennell most served as the color commentator for ASU radio broadcasts. This is a surprising move considering Mike Dunlap was already on the staff. Dunlap had a ton of success as a head coach at Metro State and as an assistant with the Nuggets. This will be Pennell’s first head job. Also, I am hearing that Dunlap will remain on the staff as the Associate Head Coach. It will be interesting to see what happens after the season – will Pennell have a legit shot to keep the job? AD Jim Livengood already said that he would open it up to a national search after the season.
