Penny adds Johnson to Memphis Basketball Staff

Memphis head coach Penny Hardaway has added Jermaine Johnson to his staff as an assistant coach. Johnson has reportedly inked a one-year deal.

Johnson is a Memphis native who had a ton of success at Melrose (TN) High School from 2007-13. During his time there, he won five straight District 16 AAA championships and captured the 2010 TSSAA Class AAA state title, winning 37 games along the way

He parlayed his high school success into stints as an assistant at Georgia Southern, Tennessee Martin, and most recently Troy.

Johnson replaces Mike Miller who resigned from the Tigers in June. Miller has since been named as the boy’s basketball coach at Houston High School (TN).
