Petty named MBB Video Coordinator at Maryland

Maryland men’s basketball head coach Mark Turgeon has announced Brenton Petty as the program’s video coordinator.

A native of Washington, D.C., Petty served as a graduate manager for Maryland from 2018-20 and was most recently a basketball operations assistant for the Detroit Pistons.

“We are extremely excited to welcome Brenton back to our coaching staff,” Turgeon said. “As a graduate assistant on our staff for two years, he demonstrated an incredible work ethic and ability to build meaningful relationships with players. A D.C. native, Brenton gained great experience last season in the Detroit Pistons front office that will add additional value to our program.”

“I want to thank Coach Turgeon for the opportunity to return to the Maryland coaching staff,” Petty said. “I am looking forward to building on our Big Ten championship two seasons ago and helping the program achieve its many goals in the coming years.”

Petty assumed a multitude of responsibilities with the Pistons front office last season, being directly involved with coordinating travel logistics for executives and scouts in addition to creating and maintaining prospect lists for the scouting department. He was also responsible for scouting coverage of seven men’s basketball conferences.

While a graduate manager at the University of Maryland from 2018-20, Petty managed daily player development and was heavily involved in developing codes to stat every practice. He also compiled opponent personnel clips for scouting reports and assisted with recruiting materials for prospective student-athletes.

Petty played collegiately at Fordham University from 2015-18 and graduated with a degree in communications. He earned his master’s degree from Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business in 2020.
