Piedmont College Names Jake Brooks Men’s Basketball Assistant Coach

Piedmont College Head Men’s Basketball Coach Greg Neeley has announced the hiring of Jake Brooks as Assistant Coach following two years serving as a volunteer assistant with the Lions. Brooks appointment follows Dan McNeely accepting the head coaching position at Maine Maritime Academy this summer.

“We are excited to welcome Jake into our full time assistant position,” Neeley said of Brooks’ hire. “He has been extremely valuable to our program the past two seasons and is ready to take an even bigger role in every aspect of our program.”

During his time with the Lions, Brooks helped guide the Piedmont program to two of the highest win totals since the 2009-2010 season including going 15-11 in 2015-16. Brooks’ primary responsibilities included assisting in managing practices, running drills and individual skill teaching while also preparing scouting reports for upcoming opponents and assisting in all areas of recruitment.

“Jake is the perfect fit to help us continue building our program,” Neeley said. “He has proven that he is great at building relationships and he embodies the integrity and work ethic that is foundational in everything we do.”

Prior to his time with Piedmont, Brooks worked as a student assistant while in college at Truett McConnell University for the 2014-15 season. While with the Bears, the program had one of its biggest turnarounds going from 4-25 to 17-12 and finishing tied for second in their conference during the regular season.

Brooks also has experience coaching an AAU 10th grade boys team serving as the Head Coach in 2016. As a Habersham county local, Brooks has also continued to work within the community with Anderson & Brooks Basketball Academy since 2013.

“I am excited to be joining Coach Neeley’s staff in a full-time roll. I believe in the vision that has been set for this program by Coach Neeley and am excited to see Piedmont Men’s Basketball continue to grow,” Brooks said. “I want to thank my wife, Coach Peeples, and Coach Neeley for working with me through this process, and I looking forward to getting to work.”

Brooks is a 2015 graduate of Truett McConnell University with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a 2017 graduate of Piedmont College with a master’s in Business Administration. Brooks also served as a graduate assistant in the information technology department at Piedmont.

Brooks is originally from Clarkesville, Georgia but currently resides in Alto with his wife Courtney and will assist Neeley in all facets of the Lions basketball program.
