Rick Pitino has officially been named as the head coach of the Greek National Team as they attempt to qualify for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. The Hellenic Basketball Federation released the following statement earlier today:

“Today (11/8), Rick Pitino agreed with EOK president Giorgos Vasilokopoulos to coach the men’s national team next summer, namely the pre-Olympic tournament with a view to qualifying for the Olympic Games in Tokyo where he will continue at the helm.”

Earlier this year, Pitino led Panathinaikos to the Greek League championship. Pitino also said publicly that he will coach the national team for free.
