University of Arkansas Fort Smith men’s basketball coach Justin Bailey has announced the hiring of Aaron Proctor as assistant men’s basketball coach.

Proctor is a native of Houston, Texas, and was previously the head boys basketball coach at North Forest High School in Houston.

“I am excited to welcome Aaron to our Lions family,” Bailey said. “I knew once I first met with him that he would be the man for the job. His maturity, his experience and knowledge will help me continue the success here at UAFS. Also, his recruiting ties and relationships in Texas will help us to continue to recruit quality student-athletes as well.”

Prior to becoming head boys basketball coach at North Forest High School, Proctor was a graduate assistant men’s basketball coach for two seasons at NCAA Division I Kansas State. His primary duties were assisting in the initial breakdown of game video, aid in gathering scouting information as well as helping coordinate film exchange. He also assisted with the recruiting database and team travel.

Before joining the Kansas State coaching staff in July 2015, Proctor spent two years (2013-15) as head coach at Alvin High School in Alvin, Texas.

At Alvin, he was in charge of the overall coaching, supervision and organization of the boys basketball program, including skill development and classroom achievement for student-athletes. He developed and implemented promotional and marketing campaigns for the basketball program using all relevant social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and website).

Under his guidance, Alvin had a five-game win increase during 2013-2014 season and a one-game improvement during 2014-2015 season. He led the team to its first district wins since the 2009 season (two total) and most wins since 2008 (six). He coached the District 22-5A Newcomer of the Year/First Team All-District as a freshman, one first-team 22-6A All-District performer, five Honorable Mention All-District performers and two Academic All-District performers.

He also spent one season as head coach at Reagan High School (2012-13) in Houston and was assistant coach at Bellaire High School in Bellaire, Texas from 2006-12.

Proctor graduated from Cal State-San Bernardino in 2006 with a Bachelor’s Degree in English. He played one season for head coach Jeff Oliver in 2004-05, helping the Coyotes to a 21-6 overall record, a CCAA title and a trip to the NCAA Tournament. He received a Master of Science Degree in College Student Personnel and Intercollegiate Athletics from Kansas State.
