Redding Named Head Coach at Penn State Berks

The Penn State Berks Athletic Department is excited to announce the hiring of Timothy Redding as the new head coach of the men’s basketball program, effective immediately.

“It is an honor to be selected as the head coach at Penn State Berks,” said Redding. “I have a great deal of respect for Penn State with its rich history, tradition, and pride.”

Redding had previous assistant coaching stints at Shepherd University (Division II), Cabrini College (Div. III), and the Reading Railers of the Professional Basketball League. Most recently, Redding was the head coach at Reading High School for three successful seasons, where he amassed a record of 71-18 (.798 winning percentage) with three straight Berks Conference titles and a District 3-AAAA championship in 2010. Redding was named the Berks County League Coach of the Year in 2010 and was the Berks County Division I Coach of the Year in 2011.

“We are excited to have Tim join the Penn State Berks athletics family,” said Director of Athletics Lisa Deibler. “We believe that his experience, character, and enthusiasm will continue to build our men’s basketball program and help us to provide a quality student-athlete experience. We are confident that he will be a great asset to our department and our student-athletes.”

Redding is a graduate of Albright College, where he competed in football, basketball, and indoor/outdoor track and field. He set the school record with 2818 points in the pentathlon in 1998 and was named the Al Dittman Most Outstanding Male Track Athlete in 1999 and 2000.  Additionally, Redding has earned advanced degrees from Virginia Commonwealth University, M.S. and Lehigh University, M.Ed.

Redding resides in Berks County with his wife, Stephanie, and their four children (Carter, Bella, Sophia, and Tanner).
